AFS Texas meeting - August 2014 - Write up and Pictures ...

August 18th 2014

Shane Allen, Head of Synchro ERP North American Operations, had the pleasure of representing the global team at the recent AFS, American Foundry Society, Texas Chapter board planning meeting.  The event was held in Corsicana Texas which is about sixty miles south of the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Eric Meyers, President of Oil City Iron Works and chapter chairman, hosted the event at the Corsicana Country Club and a fine fare was provided.

This was the 2014-2015 planning meeting and the upcoming events were covered in-depth as well as the financials and budget of the chapter.   A lot of quality time and energy has been expended by the membership in getting the upcoming15th AFS Texas Regional organized.  The dates of the event are September 24th - 26th at the Hilton in Arlington Texas.    For complete details and registration information, please visit  http://www.afs-tx.org/regional/2014/regional_main.htm

Sponsors are still needed to help defray the costs of the event and to get their name out in front of the attendees .

This will be an "All Star" event with the heavy hitters of Chris Norch, AFS National President from President of Denison Industries Texas and Leo Baran, AFS National Director of Membership Services speaking at the event.

Please contact Dan Smith, Vice Chairman of the AFS Texas Chapter, at 903-759-3946 or by email at DSmith@swscc.com regarding sponsorship packages.

The schedule of events for 2014-2015 include:
·         September 24th - 26th 2014 Regional at Arlington Hilton

In additional news from the planning meeting, Shane Allen was nominated and he accepted being the chairman of the publicity committee.  Other members of this committee include Ben Riley, Eric R. Meyers, and Steve Hodges.

There are additional sponsorship opportunities for the upcoming AFS Texas Sam Houston Race Track meeting held in January 2015 .  A sponsor is needed for providing the box lunch for the Texas Trouble Shooters Meeting.  This is a popular class that focuses on solving problems within the foundry.   The preliminary topic for this year's meeting will be to cover solidification modelling, gating, and risers.

Dr. Laura Bartlett, Professor at Texas State University, provided an update on the success of the foundry program and how AFS Texas is really supporting their needs.  They have students lined up for the foundry course and also students participating in internships.

Until next time, see you on down the road at the 15th AFS Texas Regional.
