Shane Allen, Head of Synchro
ERP North American Operations, had the pleasure of representing the global team
at the recent AFS, American Foundry Society, Texas Chapter board planning
meeting. The event was held in Corsicana
Texas which is about sixty miles south of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Eric Meyers, President of Oil City Iron Works
and chapter chairman, hosted the event at the Corsicana Country Club and a fine
fare was provided.
This was the 2014-2015
planning meeting and the upcoming events were covered in-depth as well as the
financials and budget of the chapter. A
lot of quality time and energy has been expended by the membership in getting
the upcoming15th AFS Texas Regional organized.
The dates of the event are September 24th - 26th
at the Hilton in Arlington Texas. For

This will be an "All
Star" event with the heavy hitters of Chris Norch, AFS National President

of Membership Services speaking at the event.

planning meeting, Shane Allen was nominated and he accepted being the chairman
of the publicity committee. Other
members of this committee include Ben Riley, Eric R. Meyers, and Steve Hodges.
There are additional
sponsorship opportunities for the upcoming AFS Texas Sam Houston Race Track
meeting held in January 2015 . A sponsor
is needed for providing the box lunch for the Texas Trouble Shooters
Meeting. This is a popular class that
focuses on solving problems within the foundry. The preliminary topic for this year's
meeting will be to cover solidification modelling, gating, and risers.
Dr. Laura Bartlett,
Professor at Texas State University, provided an update on the success of the
foundry program and how AFS Texas is really supporting their needs. They have students lined up for the foundry
course and also students participating in internships.
